Venue: Al-Tagwa mosque, Man Fatt Lam Temple & Sree Ramar Temple
Our youth members organised a heritage trail to visit 3 of our Religious Organisation (RO). A total of 17 youth joined us in a learning journey to visit Al-Taqwa mosque, Man Fatt Lam temple and Sree Ramar temple.
Ustaz Nazeer was present to welcome us to his mosque and we were greeted with teh tarik, curry puffs and other local delicacies. He gave us a brief history and tour of his mosque. We were fortunate to be able to witness a solemnisation ceremony at the mosque that morning. Our youth presented the mosque with a fig plant to thank them for their hospitality.
We then set off to visit Man Fat Lam temple and their COO Steven Lim was there to greet us. He shared the founding of their temple and gave us a tour of the impressive Buddha statue inside the temple. The temple also have a senior day care center which is open only during weekdays. As this is the month of the hungry ghost, the temple was busy making preparations to celebrate this festival. We gave a plant to the temple too and the chief monk placed it at the main altar of Buddha.
We continued our journey to Sree Ramar temple and our bus driver decided to take us on a scenic ride to Changi Village. There were a lot of devotees at the temple by the time we arrived there. We were greeted by the temple manager Mr Vijay and our tour guide for the day Mr Thala. He was very knowledgeable and gave a comprehensive account of their temple as well as all the different deities present in the temple.
Our youth members learned about empathy and humility by serving lunch to the temple devotees. After that, we adjourned to the meeting room whereby Mr Thala continued his briefing of the temple to us. We managed to squeeze in a lovely vegetarian lunch in between the sharing by Mr Thala. Towards the end of the briefing, our youth members presented a cheque amounting to $250 to Mr Vijay as a donation to pay for the lunch for their devotees.
There was a heavy downpour when the tour ended. We boarded the bus back to Siglap CC. We are very grateful to our 3 ROs for extending their hospitality to our youth members. We are happy that our youths are willing to engage our ROs and are able to learn about the different religions in Singapore. It is through racial harmony that our country can continue to progress and move forward as one people. Majulah Singapura
